About Pre Sea Training

Today’s cadet is tomorrow’s master or chief engineer and finally the future manager of the company. Accordingly, SIMS recognises the importance of the quality training and development of our cadets.

Having successfully instituted a world-class Post Sea Training Facility, SIMS embarked on another visionary training project in starting a world-class Pre Sea Training Facility for deck and engine cadets. Located at Lonavala, Maharashtra.

Students will be given training that is over and above mandatory international standards and successful graduates can look forward to a rewarding seafaring career in the maritime industry.

Training Program

? Deck Officer Training (DNS)

 

 

Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) is a one (1)-year course conducted at SIMS, Lonavala. Upon Successful completion, a cadet qualifies to join as a deck cadet on board ships. During the 18 months of sea time training required onboard a sea-going vessel, a cadet receives free boarding & lodging apart from a stipend. Subsequently, he needs to obtain the Second Mate’s Certificate of Competency under the Directorate General of Shipping, Govt. of India to qualify as a third officer on any sea going vessel. A cadet will also be eligible for the B.Sc (Applied Nautical Science) degree from IMU (Indian Maritime University) after obtaining the Second Mate’s Certificate of Competency.

Only those candidates who have appeared for class XIIth board examinations from a board that is approved by the Ministry of HRD, Govt of India are eligible.

The following marks must be obtained:
? Minimum Aggregate Percentage - 60%
? Minimum PCM aggregate - 60%
? Minimum score in Physics & Maths individually - 50%
? Minimum aggregate for Physics & Maths - 60%
? For Andhra Pradesh & Kerala State boards: 11th & 12th aggregate marks will be considered for the above mentioned criteria.

Candidates who have appeared for XII examinations and the results are yet to be declared, are also eligible to appear.

OR

II. B Sc in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or Electronics with Physics as individual subject in one of the years, with an average of not less than 55% of marks in final year & 60% marks over all. Candidate should also secure min 55% marks in PCM in Class XII

OR

III. B.E./B. Tech from IIT or college recognised by AICTE with an average of not less than 50% of aggregate in the final year

Graduate Marine Engineering (GME)

 

 

Graduate Marine Engineering (GME) is a one (1)-year post graduate course for students with a graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering/ Naval Architecture from any AICTE approved engineering college in India. Upon successful completion, an engine cadet will qualify for a 6 months onboard training as a Junior Engineer on a seagoing vessel, receiving free boarding & lodging apart from a monthly stipend during onboard training. Thereafter, he appears for the Certificate of Competency (COC) Examination (Class IV) conducted by the Directorate General of Shipping, Govt. of India. Upon receiving the COC, he is eligible to serve as a Fourth Engineer officer onboard a ship.

Furthermore, successful candidates are entitled for exemption from the Class-IV, Part-A Examination of the Directorate General of Shipping.

Electro Technical Officer Training (ETO) -

A highly specialized position, the Electro Technical Officer (ETO) in a merchant navy vessel utilizes expertise in handling all electrical equipment of the vessel unlike other engineers on board who are responsible for the engine watch keeping. The ETO training at SIMS, balances theoretical knowledge, practical skills, safety consciousness and efficiency.

  • Four month residential pre-sea training at the state of the art Ship-in-Campus
  • Eight months of onboard training as a trainee ETO after successful completion of the course
  • Certificate of Competency (COC) Examination conducted by the Directorate General of Shipping, Govt. of India.
  • Upon receiving COC, candidate eligible to serve as an Electro Technical Officer onboard merchant ship
  • Campus selection by the world’s best shipping companies

About Post Sea Training

Post-sea facility of the institute, located at Govandi, Mumbai, was established exclusively for the in-house crew of our main sponsors, Executive Group of Companies, Singapore as a step to achieve the highest standards in manning. Operational since September 2002, SIMS is considered one of the finest maritime training institutes, not just in India but also in the world.

Owing to the demands and requirements for high quality maritime training in the Shipping Industry, SIMS Management has decided to open its services to other customers, with effect from 1st October 2015. Post sea courses are also available at our campuses located at Chandigarh and Cochin.
