About Kothari Institute of Nursing

Nurses are the backbone of healthcare industry and play pivotal role in providing effective healthcare services and recognizing the requirement and shortage of good and trained nurses in the healthcare industry, Kothari Medical Centre is starting GNM and B. Sc (Nursing) programme under the name of Kothari Institute of Nursing, which in days to come will provide much needed support to the healthcare industry in meeting the demand for quality nurses.

GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery)

GNM course extends over a period of three years inclusive of internship. The institute has planned curriculum to provide breadth of knowledge and skills in varied nursing situations to enable the students to become professional nurses in order to provide comprehensive nursing care in various level of health care settings.

The aims of the GNM course are:

  • To demonstrate competency in providing health care to individual whether sick or well.
  • To function effectively with members of the team and community applying knowledge of human relations and communication skills in her work
  • To mobilize community resources and involve in working with them

The candidate must be between the age of 17 to 27 years as on 31st December in the year of admission. Course available for female candidates only..

Nationality

1.She should be a citizen of India

2.She shall be a resident of West Bengal uninterruptedly for at least five years, preceding the date of making the application for admission.

3.The residential certificate as above should be issued by a Gazetted officer/MLA/Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati/Mayor/Chairman of Municipal Corporation/Panchayat Pradhan/Ward Councillor/MP on their letter head mentioning that the candidate is permanent resident or has been residing till date at the current address for at least last five years.

Education

1.H.S (10+2) Examination or equivalent from a recognized board/council with minimum 40% marks in aggregate in compulsory subject and three best elective subject except environment education and minimum 40% marks in English

2.. Completion of ANM course from the school recognized by Indian Nursing Council as well as H.S. ( 10+2) with English as a subject with at least 40% marks in both the exams. Marks obtained in the vocational or additional subjects will not be considered

Application form to be filled up in the candidate's own handwriting as per the proforma. All the columns should be filled up. The application form should be accompanied by attested photocopies of all the following documents.

Medical Fitness

Candidate should be medically fit.

Selection Procedure

  • Merit list will be prepared according to marks secured in H.S. examination. All original documents will be verified on the day of admission.
  • Selection is subject to the verification of mark sheet from H.S Council / concerned authority.

As per norms laid down by West Bengal Nursing Council.

A candidate shall be eligible for examination as per the rules laid down by the West Bengal Nursing Council & Indian Nursing Council.

The students who are declared successful in the final year examination are eligible for registration with the W.B.N.C. as registered nurse and registered midwife.

B.Sc. NURSING (Bachelor of Science in Nursing)

B.Sc. Nursing course extend over a period of four years inclusive of internship. The institute has planned curriculum to provide breadth of knowledge and skills in varied nursing situations to enable the students to become professional nurses in order to provide comprehensive nursing care in various level of health care settings. The college provides opportunities to each student to integrate and utilize knowledge and skills from the various bio-psycho-social fields of learning necessary in the practice of nursing.

The aims of the B.Sc. Nursing course are:

  • To provide broad base education for preparation of nursing personnel at basic and advanced levels, who can function in wide variety of health care setting and make their distinctive contribution in all branches of nursing for promotion of health, prevention of disease, care during illness and maintenance of positive health.
  • To prepare a corps of well qualified nurses for leadership position to assume responsibilities in nursing and to do pioneer wok of creative nature for the development of human & scientific health care system.
  • To help nurses develop an ability to co-operate and co-ordinate with members of the health team in the prevention of disease, promotion of the health and rehabilitation of the sick.
  • To help nurses in their personal and professional development, so that they are able to make maximum contribution to the society as useful and productive individuals, citizen as well as efficient nurses.
  • To prepare nurses to keep pace with the latest professional and technological developments and use these for providing nursing care services.
